the new travie mccoy album is...

amazing.

bp's strategy makes a whole lot more sense now...

and yep, still seems pretty idiotic.

special thanks to dustin for sharing this video and clearing up the bp thought process.

brothers go to the food store

as my brother and i entered our local food store, a presumably homeless man stopped us about 15 feet from the door, at 11:15pm.

homeless bob: "hey, do you guys have any work for me?"
me: "nah, sorry bud. just shopping"
homeless bob: "hey, are you guys brothers?"
kevin: "yeah! do we look alike?"
(know that he has now changed direction and is following us as we enter the food store)
homeless bob: "yeah, but not your faces. you guys look like you lift the same things... like you are the same from the neck down..."
kevin: "sorry, no work. have a good night"

and the awkwardness continues at the register...

register lady named jaio: "are you brothers?
kevin: "is it because we look alike?"
register lady named jaio: "its your nose"
kevin: "really? actually our noses are a little different. his is more of a bulb and i have a hook..."
me: "kevin, its because they are bigger than everyone elses."
register lady named jaio: "yes! thats it!"
me: "haha i knew it..."
kevin: "you know what they say about a guy with a big nose..."
me: "stop hitting on the register lady!! lets go."

ok... so the takeaway from this is never go to a food store at night with my brother... or get drunk beforehand so things are less awkward and more hilarious.

happy stephen strasburg day! (copyright djfitz)

a year ago... being a nationals fan was on the same level as buying store brand cereal. you know, its cheap and easy but you would never brag about it or even voluntarily celebrate the fact that you like sugar crisps instead of frosted flakes.

now... there is a buzz about town that takes me back to january of 2009 when obama joined the 202. a young gentleman has come to the capital of this great nation who is going to save the day/season/country/franchise/economy.

dc seems a bit crazed... like philly the night that the flyers made it to the stanley cup finals(i made the mistake of driving through the city that night...someone was kind enough to throw up on my car. thanks.) and im nervous for the sake of nationals and new fans alike. not since the franchise returned to dc, has there been quite the level of excitement as right now. that comes with some upside and also some downside. he is a rookie. he is a 21 or 22 year old kid and has been touted as the franchise savior. im not trying to be a sour puss but if it does not go well today, the level of excitement may not return again to this level this season... which would be sad! the nats are legit this season... but its not about the nats. its about stephen, meaning that if he does not do well, even if the nats win, the excitement dies off and everyone is bummed out. but thats my nervous jewish mother coming out...

what im hoping for is he does well, which would obviously be awesome!! he could have that "lebron-esque" status in dc (which has been vacated since gilbert showed off his second amendment rights). and i really hope that happens. i do want to be able to get tickets to nat games in the future but ill trade seeing games live for a real excitement across the city. not only that but all the zimmerman jerseys will be super cheap as they try and push the strasburg ones!

so all in all, good luck today big guy! and regardless of what happens, GOOOOO NATS!

ruby tuesday rocks... and im not talking about the salad bar...

ok, so it is no secret that i love ruby tuesdays. i have always loved the restaurant and most notably, the salad bar. i usually couple the salad bar with a bison burger or a set of minis and i never leave hungry.

and then rubys knocked it up a notch.

last night, i visited one such ruby tuesday and i was shocked. floored. moved to tears. partially due to hunger, but tears nonetheless.

i walked in to the sound of paramore blasting over the speaker system... followed by something corporate... then the ataris... then OLD all american rejects. i was floored. it was as if king ruby heard my secret demands to drop the crappy sterile elevator music and get the place jumping a little bit. several conversations were put on hold/ended because i simply desired to sing along to each anthemic punk rock song on the playlist.

if rubys continues like this, i would expect some acoustic sessions at the salad bar or block parties thrown sponsored by rubys. in all fairness, the restaurant chain was named after a rolling stones song. im pretty sure if mick jagger heard all the crappy jason-mraz-but-worse-if-you-can-imagine music on a 2 hour repeat being shoved down people's throats to accompany their salad bar, he would be pissed.

so job well done rubes. maybe throw that in the old zagat... who knows, it might get you some more points!
